What is the latest update on the Hyundai Creta EV?

The Hyundai Creta EV will be introduced in India in January 2025.

How much is the Creta EV’s price?

As the model is still under development, prices for the Hyundai Creta EV have not been announced yet. They are likely to start around Rs 19 lakh and go up to around Rs 27 lakh ex-showroom for the fully loaded models.

How many variants are there in the Hyundai Creta EV?

Much like the price, the variant list of the Creta EV will be disclosed at launch. Hyundai uses variant names such as E, EX, S and SX, along with option or plus (+) packs with select variants.

What features does the Creta EV get? 

The Hyundai Creta electric will be priced above the Hyundai Creta itself but will share most of its features with the standard Creta. Expect features like LED headlamps with LED DRLs, connected LED tail lamps, a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a digital instrument cluster, connected car tech and dual-zone climate control. The car should also get an 8-speaker Bose sound system, wireless phone charging, ventilated front seats, a 360-degree camera, along with a panoramic sunroof.

How spacious is it? 

This is best judged after the Creta EV is launched. While we expect it to offer similar space and practicality as the petrol/diesel Creta, the large battery pack may affect the cabin or boot space in comparison.

What electric powertrain does the Hyundai Creta EV offer? 

Expect the Creta electric to offer front-wheel drive like its petrol/diesel counterpart. The technical specifications of the Hyundai Creta electric have not been disclosed but we expect it to get a battery pack that’s between 45-50kWh in capacity which should deliver a range of over 400km on a full charge. 

How safe is the Hyundai Creta EV?

The Creta EV should include 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, Hill Start Assist, Vehicle Stability Control, Tyre Pressure Monitoring System and all wheel disc brakes as standard. The higher spec variants should also offer Level 2 ADAS safety suite, which include features like adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking and blind spot detection among others. 

Should I wait for the Hyundai Creta EV?

If you are looking to buy an electric SUV for your family, the Hyundai Creta EV could be worth waiting for. Most of what it will offer will be similar to the standard Hyundai Creta and if you’d like those same values with the benefits of driving electric, the Creta EV is something to look forward to.

What are my alternatives?

If you want an electric SUV in the same size as the Hyundai Creta, you can consider the MG ZS EV. Do note that around the time Hyundai launches the electric Creta, Kia is expected to launch the Seltos EV while Maruti Suzuki will launch the eVX SUV (electric Grand Vitara) which will be Maruti Suzuki’s first-ever electric car.
