Audi aims to become top car maker in India

Audi, a Germany based luxury car maker is aggressively planning to leave behind its competitors including BMW and Mercedes Benz by acquiring top position in Indian premium car segment. Company is all set to increase its sales three fold within the period of next 5 years. Peter Schwarzenbauer, AUDI AG board member, told to media that company is targeting to possess the number one position in India by year 2015. He added that company has told its team in India to work towards its parents aim. Audi India is also working on plans of assembling its compact SUV Q5 in the country by the month of June this year. The Q5 model will be assembled at Skoda's Aurangabad plant which is also a subsidiary of Volkswagen group in India. Company currently assembles its sedans Audi A4 and Audi A6 in the country.

At present the Audi India is at 3rd position in India following its arc rivals BMW and Mercedes Benz in the luxury car segment. Audi India sold 1,658 units in year 2009 and it is planning to increase this figure to 5,000 units by year 2015. While in the year 2009 BMW and Mercedes Benz sold 3,619 and 3,247 units respectively. Audi India is aggressively planning to expand its dealership base in the country to 18 by next year as against existing 12 dealership. Company is all set to expand its business to tier-2 cities including Coimbatore, Jaipur, Kolkata, Ludhiana, Lucknow, Nagpur and Coimbatore.
