Audi's Expansion Plans in India

Audi a German engineered car marvel manufacturing worldwide range of automobiles from small cars to SUV's, showed a growth of 63% in the first half of the year in India. Alhough Audi, is not in the spotlight in between its arch rivals Mercedes-Benz and BMW brawl, it has created a ripple between the other German carmakers. Audi has shown a 50% growth from the last year's 1,800 units to this years 2,700 cars which they expect to sell by the end of 2010. Audi has aggressive expansion plans, as can be seen in Rajasthan where it has opened its new showroom in the heritage city of Jaipur. And with new products coming in the market they plan to capture the Indian automobile industry.

Andre Konsbruck, executive director, region overseas, Audi expressed that the Indian Market are showing a fast pace growth with the increasing number of millionaires. Audi expects a growth of 30 percent in another four to five years time in India.

At present, in the Aurangabad manufacturing unit, Audi is assembling the A4, A6 and Q5 SUV and will not come with Q7 looking at the present scenario. The Q7 will go for a model change soon within two to three years. Though Audi is enjoying good returns from the market, remuneratively, it doesn't justify to accumulate Q7 in India for now, Andre confirmed. Audi is sure to keep an eye on the arch rivals by closely monitoring BMW X1 price for making it's strategy for the launch of Q3 in India. Konsbruck said after the launch of Q3 in Europe in next year, they are planning to hit the Indian market with the new SUV. He also said manufacturing is a possibility which will surely cut down on pricing.

Audi plans an expansion in India by introducing A8L,the luxury saloon, by December 2010. However, the 4.2 FSI V8 and 6.0 W12 will hit the market first, in diesel engines. They further added that A7, a four door coupe is all set to come in India, by the first half of 2011. The company is rejoicing with the annual sales report as the first half of the month was promising. Moreover, they expect to achieve the sales target by the end of this year.
