The latest reports suggest that the South Korean automajor Hyundai will launch its new small car on 14th October in India. The bookings for the small car are likely to begin from October 1st. Hyundai Eon is based on the ‘Fluidic design’ to compete against Maruti Alto and Tata Nano in the hatchback segment. Hyundai Eon price is expected to be in the range of Rs 2.5 lakhs for the base variant. Hyundai Eon dimensions could be similar to that of Maruti Alto in length, however, with higher roofline. The small car will have the same tall boy design like Hyundai Santro, though not in the same proportions.
The hatchback will come powered with a 800 cc three-cylinder petrol engine to churn a peak power of 50 Bhp. Hyundai Eon will be the cheapest car offered by the Hyundai Motors. Hyundai Eon is expected to make a niche in the Indian car market with its contemporary styling, which is expected to be priced lower than the Hyundai’s least expensive model, Hyundai Santro. Hyundai Eon is the most important project from Hyundai Motors. The India bound model is specifically designed to dethrone Maruti Alto in the segment. Maruti Alto has been the Maruti India’s best-selling model since its launch without any well-matched competitor in the segment.
The lack of the diesel engine for Hyundai Eon is likely to affect the car sales slightly due to the high demand for diesel cars in India. Hence, Hyundai India launching a diesel model of the small car cannot be ruled out altogether. Apparently Hyundai India is studying the market dynamics in the country to introduce few more models in future. Hyundai India presently offers Hyundai Santro, Hyundai Santa Fe, Hyundai i10, Hyundai i20 and Hyundai Verna, Hyundai Accent.
