Hyundai eyes a niche in hatchback segment with Eon

Hyundai India intends to launch its small car to replace the phased out model Maruti 800 by the end of this year. The small car is supposed to fill the gap between the Tata Nano and Maruti Alto in the small car segment. R Sethuraman, VP of Hyundai Motors had reportedly said that the upcoming small car will be made available in just the petrol and the LPG variants and the diesel engine will power the high end models of Hyundai cars.

A charitable Trust of HMI, Hyundai Motor India Foundation (HMIF) has undertaken the responsibility to train the young people from Southern states to excel in the Mechanical fields. Another hatchback expected to be offered by HMI is Hyundai Eon to target the Maruti Alto in the hatchback segment. The Hyundai Eon, codenamed as HA is specifically designed to cater to the needs of the Indian buyers by offering higher ground clearance in the car.

The small car is going to be a tall boy model with just 3.5 m length. Hyundai Eon will adorn the same gearbox as affixed in Hyundai Santro, the new hatchback will be equipped with a 800 cc engine with a peak power output of 56 PS and a peak torque output of 7.65 Kgm.
