Hyundai Santa Fe to be launched in India by Oct 2010

The Korean auto giant Hyundai is all set to enter the luxury SUV segment in the Indian market for the third time by launching its much anticipated Hyundai Santa Fe in the country by October 2010. It is to be mentioned here that before this, the company had introduced its SUV's Terracan and Tuscon in the Indian market but discontinued them after it decided to send these models for up-gradation, globally. The all new Hyundai Santa Fe model is expected to carry a price tag of Rs 22 to 24 lakh. The company has deliberately chosen the month of October for the launch of this car in India so that the prospective SUV can get an strong opening in the country. Generally, during Diwali, the demand for luxury cars remains at its best in India and car makers try to make the most of it by launching their respective new cars during the season.

According to Mr Arvind Saxena, director (marketing & sales) at Hyundai Motor India, the company will launch Sante Fe in October-November, ahead of the festive season. He also added that If volumes pick up, they will consider assembling the vehicle in India. Mr Saxena also said that the company intends to give significant focus to its premium product category with the launch of the Santa Fe, and then follow it up with other models.
This time, the model is expected to be launched in a seven seater version as against the five seater luxury SUVs of the company. The new Santa Fe model will come loaded with a 2.2-litre diesel engine and carry a comparatively higher fuel economy than its predecessors. The company will initially import this car in the Indian market as completely built-up units (CBU) and possibly start assembling it in the country as soon as its demand picks-up here.

After its launch in the Indian market, the car will be competing with some of the most popular cars of this segment in the Indian market including Honda CR-V, Chevrolet Captiva, Nissan X Trail, Ford Endeavour, Mitsubishi Outlander. Besides this, the new Hyundai Santa Fe will also be locking horns with some of the new entrants of this segment including Skoda Yeti and Nissan Murano which are expected to be launched in the Indian market by year 2010 fall.
