All the speculations about Kia, Hyundai’s subsidiary making it to India died away some time back when the denial came straight from the horse’s mouth. However, fresh set of rumours began to float once again when globally acclaimed Kia Picanto was spotted during its test rounds recently. This could only mean that Kia Picanto launch in India is still a possibility.

Picanto, well-known as Kia Morning in Korea shares more than a few similarities with Hyundai i10. We are not talking just about the engine department, the Hyundai i10 skeleton along with the basic design structure are thoroughly similar with that of Kia Picanto, not to forget the car interiors. Moreover, if Kia Picanto does come into the Indian car market, it is definitely not under any false pretences. The concept of common-platform sharing is not hidden encrypted somewhere deep within. To emphasize on the point, Hyundai and Kia, like any other sister concerns do share common platforms. However, the unique overall design maintained by both the car manufacturers is enough to bring in the distinction.

But does, Hyundai India has enough scope to offer a small hatchback on its own, is the first question that comes into the mind. The second largest car manufacturer in the country, has enough low-cost cars in the overly crowded hatchback segment. The segment is fraught with Hyundai cars beginning with the latest car, Hyundai EON, which though occupies a slot lower than Hyundai Santo, there is a common space shared by both the cars leading to cannibalisation within the same brand. The same story repeats with the duo of Hyundai i10 and Hyundai i20. Now, if Hyundai India does hope to garner more growth, Kia Picanto could be the only answer. The innovativeness and fresher appeal can be expected from a new automobile company, which has not tasted the success in the Indian car market yet. Based on what we have, probably we can bet high on Kia Picanto making it to Indian shores after all.
