Mahindra REVA NXR electric car to break cover in 2012

Mahindra Reva electric car was the first ever electric car to have been introduced in Indian car market. The Revai had been the recipient of numerous awards including the 2010 Green car award, bestowed by CNBC and TV18. Now, it is reported that the Revai is believed to undergo a major makeover to emerge out as Reva NXR, to be launched in 2012. The main drawback from the Revai, which can accommodate only two passengers, has been ruled out in Reva NXR, upgrading the seating arrangement to four people.

The Mahindra Reva has been known for its extremely easy parking due to its compact size and enables easy maneuvering on the Indian roads. The Revai that used to provide a mileage of 80 km per charge of its lead acid batteries is made to improve providing twice as much, offering 160 km per single charge in its Reva NXR version. Mahindra Group has formed a collaboration with Reva in 2010, which is well-known for its production of electric cars.

The Reva NXR specifications reveal a stylish two door hatchback providing a maximum speed of 104 kmph, a significant improvement from Revai’s 80 kmph, there-by avoiding the stagnation in the traffic while surrounded by fast moving cars. The earlier Revas are known for their slow pace, placing a potential threat for causing traffic-jams. The Reva NXR is likely to be equipped with many advanced features like, keyless operation, digital display, Dual charge ports and SMS alerts. The Reva NXR is likely to be powered with a new lithium-ion battery. The Reva NXR will not only be bigger and roomier, but is likely to come with a better finish of the interiors. Though not confirmed, the Reva NXR price is likely to be around 4-5 lakhs.
