The Indian subsidiary of Japanese car major, Maruti Suzuki India, has maintained a top position in the passenger car segment ever since its establishment in year 1983.
The company went through new marketing strategies in order to fight the global competition. At the same time, S Nakanishi who is the managing director of Maruti Suzuki worked towards the dominance of Maruti on the Indian compact car market.
The market share of Maruti in Indian auto market has taken a low swing of 50% in this financial year. The company was unable to catch up with the growing market an on the other hand, the major competitors were able to take away the ground by defeating them easily by increasing sales in growing Indian auto market. The car sales in India faced a growth of striking 30% in the first 10 months of the running financial year.
As per the statements made by the company was not able to progress in growing market as the actual estimates were not correct and anticipated demand was very low then the actual ones. He is associated with the company since 1980s when Maruti came up with the first ever ‘people’s car’ in India. But at a good note, Maruti is still the brightest stone on the Japanese car maker’s crown.
For now Maruti accounts for half of the profits made by the Japanese partner. Moreover the share is expected to further rise in the coming years. Mr. Nakanishi has commented that the company is taking Indian auto market as the main hub for Suzuki’s global operations.
