Maruti Kizashi to be manufactured in India

Maruti Suzuki, a major automobile market shareholder for hatchback cars in India is now looking ahead to get its grip in the luxury sedans and saloons segment. Earlier, Maruti tried to capture the premium car market with its Maruti Grand Vitara but was unable to meet the market expectations. Maruti is now planning to launch Maruti Kizashi by the end of this year. Maruti's upcoming sensation, Maruti Kizashi will be priced in the range of 17 lakhs to 24 lakhs and will compete with major premium brands like Honda Accord, Skoda Superb and Toyota Camry. Maruti Kizashi will come in 2.4 litre DOHC inline four cylinder petrol engine. It has peak power of 180 bhp and torque of 170 lb-ft and has already been showcased by Maruti at Delhi Auto Expo, 2010.
In small cars Maruti has been dominant since the last two decades and currently posses the market share of around 50 percent with eight hatcback cars in the market which are : Alto, A-star, Eeco, Ritz, SX4, Swift, Wagon R and Zen Estilo. A senior official of Maruti Suzuki stated that they would be looking ahead to manufacture Kizashi in India as when the start getting the sales volume from CBU's and CKD's. Maruti has long term plans to manufacture Kizashi in India. Initially Maruti Kizashi will imported in India as CBUs which will increase the base price of the model by more than 100% and would include custom charges and other imposed duties and taxes. Maruti has planned that if sales figures of Kizashi will be adequte then they would get the cars in India through CKD. But in CKD too the cost would be 60% more than its base price. To overcome such problems the company has its long term plans to manufacture Kizashi in India at its Manesar manufacturing facility.
Recently Maruti has announced to invest Rs. 6,125 crore in India by 2013 and its partnership with leading automajors like Volkswagen will make it more established. Currently Maruti Suzuki has got its two manufacturing facilities in India, the first one is at Gurgaon spread over 300 acres and the other one is at Manesar spread over 600 acres.
