Apart from this, the MSI has approved the proposal to set up two committees, grievance counselling and labour welfare to promote a happy environment at the company. The ‘Grievance Redressal Committee’ will have the representatives from the management and the workers to handle the worker issues at the company to avoid further miscommunications. A ‘Labour Welfare Committee’ will also be formed according to the agreement comprising of workers and the management representatives apart from the Labour Officer from the Government, who will be a part of the committee to handle the labour issues. The Maruti India management during the multiple round of talks had assured the workers that they will screen the cases of all the suspended employees individually and then implement the necessary action.

They confirmed that they will induct those employees who are found to be non-guilty. While they agreed to re-instate 64 employees, 30 suspended employees were charged with a serious offence. The management has ruled out any possibility of taking in the rest of 30 workers. Another clause included in the agreement was the ‘no work no pay’ during the strike period. The company management has agreed to provide the transport facility to the workers based on their work timings. The agreement was signed by the worker representatives and the management in the presence of the Gurgaon Deputy commissioner, PC Meena, Sub Divisional Magistrate, Satyendra Duhan, Labour Commissioner Smt Satwanti Ahlawat and Assistant Labour Commissioner, Nitin Yadav.

The current Maruti strike at the MSI plants began on October 7th, when 8,000 MSI employees including the workers from the Suzuki Powertrain India Ltd (SPIL) and Suzuki Motorcycle India Pvt Ltd (SMIPL) went on strike demanding to take back 1,200 contract workers and 44 suspended employees apart from the 50 workers who were suspended or dismissed during the current standoff. The demand for the 44 suspended employees had been long standing since the 33-day long impasse started on August 29th and ended on October 1st after the workers signed the ‘Good Conduct Bond’. Maruti Suzuki India is now considering to shift its operations to a proposed plant in Gujarat, the matter is expected to be on the agenda on the meeting to be held on October 29th.
