Once again, the Tamil Nadu state government has postponed the decision of reinstating thirty five workers who were dismissed from Hyundai Motor India Ltd. This decision has been deferred for the fourth time. Though it was promised that a decision will be taken on Monday, September 20, 2010, but the same has been postponed now, said a union leader.

A. Soundararajan, general secretary, CITU (Centre of Indian Trade Unions) commented that the office of the labour commissioner has provided a letter which states that the final meeting of tripartite committee will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday for finalizing their report. He further said that they had thought about having a hunger strike but the officials gave the assurance for a final decision on Wednesday. It is worthwhile mentioning here that  HMIEU, that is, Hyundai Motor India Employees Union is affiliated to CITU (Centre of Indian Trade Unions).

In June, a MoU ( Memorandum of Understanding) was signed between HMIEU and the Hyundai management. According to this MoU, a review committee had to be formed for preparing a report on the reinstatement of the employees who have been dismissed from Hyundai Motor India Ltd. On one side, the officials of the labour commissioner have yet to provide their recommendations while the representatives of the company and HMIEU have already provided their arguments for the reinstatement. Providing the recommendations is necessary for both the parties.
