Volkswagen, a Germany based leading car maker, said on Tuesday that it will increase the production of its recently launched compact car Polo in India to clear the order backlog, which has now reached up to 5,700. Interestingly, the Volkswagen Polo was launched just two months back, and since then it is receiving a very good response from Indian buyers.

The Volkswagen Polo model was launched in both diesel and petrol versions, with the price tag between Rs 4.34 and Rs 6.70 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The company has managed to sell 1,599 units of this car so far, out of a total booking of 7,300 cars. At present, it can take up to four months to deliver this vehicle, depending on the availability of a particular color and variant.

Company is gradually planning to ramp-up the production, but not rapidly as, it does not want to compromise on the quality. About 50 per cent of the components are localised, so it has to be very careful while increasing the output, as per a statement given by Volkswagen Group Sales India Board Member Neeraj Garg. The Polo model is competing with some of the most popular cars in India including Maruti Swift and Ritz, Hyundai i10 and i20, Skoda Fabia and Honda Jazz.

Volkswagen has manufactured about 1,800 units in the last two months from its facility at Chakan at an average production of 900 units per month. Volkswagen Polo is having 3-4 months of waiting period before delivery and denied market rumours that the company is delaying deliveries due to technical issues, Mr Garg added.
